Initially, in Bollywood celluloids, ‘mothers’ had always portrayed in a very stereotypical character. Apart from some exceptional films like ‘Mother India‘, most of the motherly character were portrayed as a next door, weaker, affectionate stereotypical part of the family. But hold on, it did get better with time! As actual modernization and liberal mindsets in Indian societies and families took a rise, ‘Mothers‘ in Bollywood films also changed with time. And we assure you that it was the best thing ever. Today is Mother’s day where we celebrate motherhood and our never-ending affection towards our mothers and team Bollywood Bee wishes all of you a very happy and motherly one (well, that was literal). But here’s one more surprise! On this mother’s day, we present you the list of these on-screen mothers who were the coolest of them all. check it out right away:

Farida Jalal in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Farida Jalal just made the character of SRK’s mother ‘Mrs. Khanna’ amazing ever! When Mrs. Khanna finds out about Anjali (Kajol), she turns into a matchmaker for her son along with her grand-daughter. Well, we all surely loved Mrs Khanna.

Ratna Pathak Shah in Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na

In this 2008 Indian coming of age romantic comedy film directed by Abbas Tyrewala, Ratna Pathak Shah portrayed a character of a single mother to lead Jai (Imran Khan), though she hides certain facts from her son, her relationship with Jai is just out of the world. Specially, when Aditi (genelia D’souza) asks her “College ke paanch saal kaha chale gaye pata hi nahi chala”, to which she replies “Phone pe beta! Phone pe”. Well, that was relatable af.

Zohra Sehgal in Cheeni Kum

Zohra Sehgal portrayed a character of 85-years old mother to 64-years old Buddhadev Gupta (Amitabh Bachchan). She literally won hearts with her happy-go-lucky and cool attitude throughout the film. And when she motivates her 64-years old son to pursue his love for the younger girl, it was the best thing ever.

Sulabha Deshpande in English Vinglish

Well, you might not remember her as she merely had few lines, but she played the character of Mrs Godbole who is the lead Shashhi’s (Sridevi) mother-in-law, who keeps motivating her to pursue her dreams and tries to sow confidence in her daughter-in-law and when she comes to know about their abroad trip, in spite of being old, she urges to go with them. Well, she was the adorable one.

Sridevi in Mom

That is one of the strongest characters Sridevi ever portrayed. A mother who seeks revenge on her daughter’s rapists and not just finding them but killing them brutally. The whole film made us stick to our seats and feel the rage of a mother with her love towards her daughter. She was one of the most bass mothers on-screen ever!

Well, we didn’t really expect to see such sides of mothers but all of them were the coolest in their own way.

Happy Mother’s Day To All!
