So we saw the much-talked-about xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage and it’s definitely a different kind of movie, and totally worth your time! It’s fast, it’s fearless, it’s OTT sometimes but it’s full of power, adrenaline and OMG WOW chemistry between Vin Diesel and our very own, Deepika Padukone! Action lovers are in for a ride with this one.
Xander Cage has supposedly been dead for years. For those of you who don’t know, IceCube took his place in the second installment of the movie. Cage comes back to life because the secret xXx program is threatened by a Pandora’s Box – a device used for global destruction. He needs an insanely talented and dare we say, hot team to complete this mission and save the world.
Deepika Padukone looks spectacular fighting against the unjust theory of world destruction. She pulls off the role of badass Serene Unger so well that you want to see more of Deepika in such roles. She has a very good amount of screen time and dominates the screen every single time. Deepika Padukone and Vin Diesel’s chemistry is no less than a magnetic spark! The duo will leave you love struck after every scene they have performed together.
Padukone said in one of her interviews that while the decision to keep a globally diverse cast was intentional, the actors fit perfectly into the shoes of their character. And we completely agree! Ruby Rose, the sharpshooting sniper of the team, is a pleasure to watch. Nina Dobrev dons the hat of the nerdy and adorable hacker very well, Tony Jaa is spectacular in his part and wins you over.
So, what doesn’t work? The plot. It doesn’t match up to D.J Caruso’s excellent direction. The movie could have avoided some scenes (maybe added more Deepika-Vin scenes because..why not!) and there are plotlines that are introduced without proper weightage.
However, get off the couch and stop stressing about your sad life this weekend. Take some time out and use it to watch xXx. It’s totally worth it.
