Jabariya Jodi Gets A New Release Date

Jabariya Jodi

Feature Name: Jabariya Jodi
Directed By: Prashant Singh
Cast: Sidharth Malhotra, Parineeti Chopra, Jaaved Jaaferi, Sanjay Mishra, Aparshakti Khurana
Run Time: 139 minutes

Jabariya Jodi is based on the tradition of groom kidnapping prevalent in Bihar. Abhay Singh (Sidharth Malhotra) along with his father (Jaaved Jaaferi) and boys run a crew where they kidnap grooms asking for dowry and forcefully marry them off to the girls. This is turn saves the bride’s family from paying the dowry.

Babli Yadav (Parineeti Chopra) lives with her father (Sanjay Mishra) and wants to run away and get married. But the only problem is that the boys all bail out on her. During a jabariya wedding, she meets Abhay and releases that he is her childhood love. What follows thereafter is their love story and this oh-so-famous practice prevalent in Bihar. Do they married – and was it love, arranged or jabariya – is what the film is all about.

The concept of the film is good and the makers have tried to share it in a non-preachy, fun manner. And they are partially successful in doing so. Partially cause the dialogues are good and mostly no cause the focus keeps shifting to the love story.

Director Prashant Singh has attempted to tell a different story in a unique way but fails cause of the not so strong script. Written by Sanjeev K Jha, we wish the writing of the film was crisper. The only respite are the dialogues which either leaves you with a smile or chuckling.

Talking about performances, Sid and Pari do a satisfactory job as it is not something we haven’t seen before. Their chemistry is present but fails to set to screen on fire. Jaaved Jaaferi and Sanjay Mishra are people to look out for in this film. Aparshakti as Chopra’s best friend too is decent. Watch out for his dialogues.

We give this film 2 stars, especially for Jaaved and Sanjay.
