The movie stars Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Paul Bettany.
Around the world, fans are eagerly waiting for the spinoff to release (it hits theatres today). We bring to you the characters from Solo: A Star Wars Story!
Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo
Played by the iconic Harrison Ford, Han Solo is a character in the Star Wars franchise. Han is a pilot from the planet Corellia, who is depicted as the second owner of the Millennium Falcon after winning the ship from Lando Calrissian in events prior to the films. In the original film trilogy, Han pilots the Falcon, along with his Wookiee co-pilot Chewbacca, whereby both pilots became involved in the Rebel Alliance’s struggle against the Galactic Empire. Harrison Ford portrayed Han in the original Star Wars trilogy as well as the first film in the sequel trilogy. Alden Ehrenreich portrays a young Han Solo as the titular protagonist in the upcoming film Solo: A Star Wars Story. Creator of the franchise George Lucas described the character as “a loner who realizes the importance of being part of a group and helping for the common good.”
Joonas Suotamo is Chewbacca
In the Star Wars Universe, Chewie was a Wookiee slave who Han freed when he saw Imperials about to kill him. However the two may meet, the relationship between Han and Chewie is sure to be a highlight of the film. Han will somehow save Chewbacca’s life, and earn the Wookiee’s eternal gratitude.
Donald Glover is Lando Calrissian
Donald Glover is following in the footsteps of Billy Dee Williams as the younger Lando Calrissian. The history between Han and Lando is a long and complicated one. Given Han is destined to win the Millennium Falcon from Lando in a Sabacc game, they may not be on the best of terms over the course of the film!
Emilia Clarke is Qi’Ra
Marketing for Solo has put Emilia Clarke’s original character Qi’Ra front and center. Her backstory has been kept under wraps, the official plot summary reads:
“Han and Qi’ra don’t have a lot in common other than not having a lot. They’re street kids on the industrial planet Corellia, doing whatever it takes to get by, dreaming of something more. They each jump at a chance to prove themselves in the perilous world of Corellia’s criminal underbelly, only to discover they are on the same mission for the same unscrupulous boss. When the job goes disastrously wrong, Han and Qi’ra are on the run – from pirates, a droid crime syndicate, the Empire, and their boss – and will have to learn to trust each other if they are going to survive.”
Qi’Ra becomes Han’s first real friend, and the two stick together for a long time. Clarke has teased that “something must happen” between Han and Qi’Ra for her to disappear from Han’s life.
Woody Harrelson is Tobias Beckett
He’s the leader of a group of criminals who cross paths with Han, and Beckett seems to become a mentor/father figure to the young Solo. When Beckett finally sees a chance to perform a big job, he assembles a team and leads them to action.
Thandie Newton is Val
A member of Beckett’s team, Val has worked with this crew for quite a while before they cross paths with the young Han Solo.
Paul Bettany is Dryden Vos
Recruited by Ron Howard for the reshoots, Paul Bettany is playing the part of Dryden Vos, who he describes as an “intergalactic gangster.“
