Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan starrer ‘Raees’ has been passed with a U/A certificate from Central Board of Film Certification. The makers were asked to make a total of six verbal alterations in the movie. Raees and Kaabil are all set to clash at the theatres on 25th January. Interestingly, Kaabil was passed with a U/A certificate after four minor audio cuts.
Here’s what we don’t understand – Isn’t Raees technically a gangster movie? Shah Rukh Khan’s role requires a certain kind of language to become the boss that he is in the movie. If a movie can’t take freedom in incorporating the proper language that suits its sentiment, then what can it do? We recently wrote an article about how the makers of Rangoon were asked to remove the word ‘Bastard’ even though it was allowed in Sidharth Malhotra starrer Brothers. Mr. Nihalani made a statement during that time about the role’s requirement to use the B-word because Sidharth was the illegitimate child of Jackie Shroff. So, why have the rules been twisted for Raees? Doesn’t a gangster’s role require for him to SPEAK like one and ACT like one?
