The brutal and heart-warming tale of a boy and wolf is definitely a must watch for everyone. Alpha, captures what’s meant to be the first incident of humans befriending wild wolves. It can be said this movie is like a story stole from Disney’s book, a journey of a boy and the wolf becoming best buds while trying to survive in the wild.

About 20,000 years ago in what is now Europe, young Cro-Magnon Keda (Kodi Smit-McPhee) goes on his first epic hunt with his chieftain father (Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson). After a terrible mishap forces the hunting party to leave the boy for dead, Keda must undertake the long, treacherous journey home alone. Along the way, he’s first attacked by, and then forms an alliance with, a wolf he names Alpha. Keda and Alpha must overcome the elements, and other predators, to survive.

There’s a pleasant, old-fashioned feel to “Alpha.” It plays like one of those Disneynature movies with sharper edges, a bit more grime and a complete lack of the English language. Yes, this movie is subtitled in English, which does make you a bit distracted while watching it but the overall experience is simply breath-taking and enjoyable.

We give it 4 buzzing bees with a huge jar of honey for Alpha, our beloved wolf.
